The Samaritan woman

However, the Lord is the time and mood to talk to her with the utmost care, women representing us in all the profound depth of human soul unsatisfied.

She carried on it a long history of affection and disaffected, of agreements and disagreements. It must have been an attractive woman, always accompanied with persons of the opposite sex. Had five husbands and was now was not her husband. His vanity flattered women must have felt every time a new suitor came to her door and sought his friendship. She was a woman who might well be envied other secretly. Be at the bottom of her being, she had, however, a drama. He had tried by every means to gain happiness, but did not get it. And there was, as usual, an hour of non-intrusive and would meet with the disdainful stares of her countrywomen.

not found who did not want to meet, but found he never expected. They did not know what to expect on that day, and would do totally different from others. For his part, he did know who they encounter, and that could have prevented if he would not be prevented with a a moral person as controversial.

He, Emanuel, God with us, the owner of all worlds, it will ask for water. She was a wretched woman, have the opportunity to give, in their poverty, which is God himself. By the well of Jacob, join the two ends of the universe in a strange way, he, the giver par excellence, asks for water, she personified poverty, gives him what he asks.

But what God requires of man? Is it the water, if he is the Creator of it? No, indeed. He asks the man that does not satisfy but momentarily to give you what you definitely have plenty. Water is a trade-off, the transient for the eternal. When God calls something a man is to return multiplied. It's a trade that begins in God, but always ending with the happy man, full of God. When God calls something, it's just an excuse to give back.

If Nicodemus shows the futility of vain things natural knowledge of God, this woman shows that emptiness in the soul's affections and pleasures of the flesh. To Nicodemus, the Lord brings a new birth to the Samaritan woman, the Lord gives him to drink water that is not exhausted and to quench forever.
Two characters are so typical of you and me, the whole human race.
